Trauma Processing

What can you expect?

  • I am EMDR trained (EMDR Association of Australia Accredited Training)

The following short video explains EMDR in a simple but effective manner:

I aim to provide:

  • A safe therapeutic space

  • Ensure we have effective mechanisms for grounding and putting the ‘brakes’ on so we don’t re-traumatise you, and address any resistance to tackling these difficult memories.

  • Ensure it is all in your control; the speed, topics, intensity. I fully acknowledge that this is a non-linear process and is different for every person.

  • Using the same reliable and comforting physical space, we will talk through the process, so you know exactly what we are going to be doing, to facilitate the processing in the most predictable manner as possible.

  • We will identify and label which flashbacks and memories have the greatest current impact on you. (Mind Mapping). We identify the 'plot line', affect and negative personal beliefs associated with the memory.

  • The overall aim of turning these flashbacks from a Gold Cinema x roller coaster x sensory suit experience of the memory, into a black and white fuzzy TV playing in the background of the room experience.

  • To facilitate processing we tax the working memory with the use of bilateral stimulation and sensory modulation in structured sets and responses and interweaves as necassary.

  • Finally, we 'install' the positive belief that we want to replace the negative personal belief.

  • Closing off each session with check-in and some possible techniques and goals until the next session.
